I am a Scottish violin maker currently living in Haddington, East Lothian.

I started to learn to play the violin aged eight but was never particularly good at it, which is no reflection on my teachers! I did, however, start to develop a lifelong fascination with the instrument itself.

I made my first attempt to make a violin while at school, simply by tracing round the instrument I played. Needless to say, it was not a success. Then, while I was a student, a chance encounter with a book on violin making in a bookshop in Kirkwall set me on something closer to the right path.

Now decidedly middle aged, my passion for fiddle making is stronger than ever. I’m studying with Sheena Laurie, Luthier, developing my skills and knowledge and looking to spend a higher proportion of my time at the bench.
